Sail Around the World Onboard The Scholar Ship

Campus Deadline: November 14, 2007 
Campus Coordinator:  Dr. Daffron	
AASCU deadline has been extended to November 19, 2007 

Who: Undergraduate students who 	
want to see the world, 
have a GPA of 2.9 or better, and 
have completed at least one year of full-time undergraduate study
toward a bachelor’s degree at a recognized institution.

When:  2008 Spring Semester: January 2-April 19, 2008

Where: 
The voyage will begin in Hong Kong, China and end in Amsterdam,
Netherlands.  
The Scholar Ship will visit ports in Shanghai, Bangkok, Chennai, Port
Victoria, Cape Town, Cape Verde Islands, Barcelona, Istanbul, and
Lisbon.

What:  
Live and study together with approximately 600 students and faculty
from around the world on The Scholar Ship. 
Participate in academic field programs, shore excursions, and
independent travel in ports visited.  

Academic Credit: Meet with the appropriate official in your
department/university to determine how credits earned on The Scholar
Ship will apply to your degree program.  

Scholarships:  The American Association of State Colleges and
Universities (www.aascu.org) and The Scholar Ship have just announced
The AASCU Global Scholars Program Onboard The Scholar Ship. This program
will award two $5,000 scholarships to undergraduate students at AASCU
member institutions.  
Other Financial Aid:  The $5,000 AASCU award covers approximately 1/4
of the Scholar Ship costs.  Students are encouraged to seek other
financial aid (such as Pell awards, local funding, etc…) and are
eligible to apply their student loans and federal financial aid to the
cost of the voyage.  Other academic and need-based scholarships are
available from The Scholar Ship in addition to the AASCU Global Scholars
program.  Students are encouraged to take advantage of more than one
source of funding.

Applying for an AASCU Global Scholars Program $5,000 Scholarship:
Students interested in applying for one of the AASCU Global Scholars
Program scholarships should contact their Campus Coordinator for
specific instructions.

Application Requirements for a $5,000 Scholarship:

Complete the application form.  Application forms can be found and
printed out by going to
http://www.thescholarship.com/pdfs/StudentApplicationPrint.pdf.   The
$50 application fee is waived.  

Submit a copy of the following application materials and documents to
your Campus Coordinator:  the completed application form, the essay
describing how participation will benefit and prepare you for your
future career, a transcript, and two letters of reference.

In addition, submit a second essay of no more than 400 words outlining
how you will integrate your experiences on The Scholar Ship voyage into
ongoing internationalization efforts on campus.  This essay can include
a broad range of initiatives such as real time links to campus from the
ship or ports, participation in special activities on return to campus,
and other initiatives.

Complete the top section of the Nomination Form and give it to your
Campus Coordinator.

Work closely with your Campus Coordinator throughout the entire
process. All materials must go through the Campus Coordinator prior to
submission to the AASCU Scholarship Review Committee.
